How a Website Design Acts as a Store Front

When it comes to an online business or even promoting a service business online, nothing is more important than the overall website design. For a company, the website is like a store front for every potential customer that visits the site which is pretty vital if you think about it. A store front, or web design, is going to make the first impression and will only have a few seconds to convince a user to stay longer. It has to show them there is something there useful and beneficial to them if they stay and browse the website longer.
Knowing how a website works and understanding how you visit different websites can certainly help you in the design of your own. Most people will do a search for whatever product or service they are interested in. Once they click onto a website, their eyes race across all the information within a few seconds and their mind makes a split second decision to stay or to click off and go elsewhere. Quality website designers know this and they know how to keep people on a site. The goal of most sites is to sell a product, sell information, or get them to fill out a contact form or some kind. Knowing this, designers will use colors, hot buttons, call actions, bulleted lists, pictures, and benefits to try and captivate the audience into browsing around.
Many other factors are vital to website design as well. For example, how user friendly a website is will determine the amount of page views. If a website is hard to navigate or understand, it will scare away visitors. Each page should look similar in design so there is a consistent theme. Navigation buttons need to be easily visible and accessible. Some website designing companies will put navigation buttons in several areas or menus throughout the site, so even if a user scrolls down the page he or she can easily navigate to another page or menu.
Website designs are similar to advertising or marketing, you have to catch the user's interest, give them what they want, and then let them know what to do next. With most products or services being sold, education and information is the key. People like to know what is in it for them, what benefits can they gain from staying on the website? How is this going to help solve my problem? While the website designer is writing some compelling content, he or she should also include keywords that the search engines will pick up. Each page of a website should be built to rank for different keywords and terms, so the content should be unique but still be beneficial to the reader and not sound like spam.
Being able to design a website successfully takes a lot of skill. Too many people read up on designing their own website, buy a template, and slap together a make shift website. It may be the much cheaper route, but when a website acts as a store front for your company, is cheap really the best route? There is a lot of skill and planning that goes into a website design, a reputable website design company can be well worth the investment.About the Author:
